Guru We have a mandate

Dear fellow:

In an exchange of e-mails away statesmen Maurice Ferré, Orlando and Frank Rullán Llenza have argued that "we need a supermajority to be admitted to the Union." That idea is wrong and Atty. Luis R. Davila Columbus (LDC) at odds with hard data in his book State Homeland published in November 2009. In chapter 14 entitled "The Falsehood of the Super Majority."

The following reasons are convincing data based on exiled in 1976 by a research group led by LDC: First, three federal states were admitted to the Union with less percent of the vote that has taken on Puerto Rico Statehood. Those states are: Nebreska admitted in 1860 with 47%, Colorado, admitted in 1859 with 45% and Arizona admitted to only 16% in 1906.

Second, in the statehood plebiscite of 1998 took 48% and none of the other options offered accumulated more than 1% by itself. Consequently Statehood plebiscite won that contrary to the allegations of the anti-statesmen.

Third, in the Democratic caucus of the PNP before primaries of 2008 endorsed a resolution expressing "A vote for the NPP is a vote for statehood." After the primaries the new leadership of PNP NO repudiated the resolution and therefore remained in effect during choice. If the PNP won the elections accumulating approximately 60% of the votes, the electorate was manifested statehood.

Therefore: WE HAVE THE MANDATE OF THE PEOPLE, WE JUST ASK STATEHOOD RESTA on that basis.

Respectfully,

Joseph C. Barbosa Muñiz, Ph.D.
